BMW Motorrad officially launch the System 6 Helmet

If you’re looking for comfort, functionality, style and safety all under one lid, look no further than BMW’s brand new System 6 helmet.

Key features:

Low weight: 1570 g (smaller shell), 1670 g ( larger shell)

Extra neck band to prevent the helmet from twisting

Excellent aero-acoustics

Chin guard with quadruple-joint mechanism

Double visor as standard

Drop-down sun visor

This lightweight helmet is the latest item to be unveiled by BMW Motorrad. In addition to boasting a minimal weight of 1570g for the smaller shell, it is one of the quietest flip-fronts on the market, has a drop down sun visor and pride’s itself on a stylish design. It is smaller and more compact than the System 5 with a cleverly designed chin bar pivot which moves in an elliptical path keeping it close to the helmet shell.

With safety at the forefront of BMW designs, the System 6 is no exception to the rule. It has exceptionally high standards of impact-absorbing qualities and has an extra neck band to prevent the helmet from twisting on impact, ensuring it remains in the best possible position on the rider’s head.

This innovative piece of BMW Rider Equipment also boasts outstanding quality. An anti fog, three dimensionally curved double - glazed visor comes as standard, absorbing 100% of UV radiation and ensuring clear visibility even in poor weather conditions. The helmet also out performs the System 5 in terms of noise control with a mere 86 dB (A) at 100 km/h.

In hot weather the helmet’s design and technical capabilities are sure to keep the rider’s head cool. A large vent at the top of the helmet combined with low-pressure vents in the neck and four air channels in the inner shell, provide significant air-flow. The helmet is also aerodynamically neutral- when the rider turns his head, only slight torsional forces are generated, thanks to exhaustive wind tunnel testing.

BMW Motorrad’s latest Bluetooth Communication System is also available for the System 6.

BMW Parts and Accessories Manager, Dave Alexander said: “We are extremely pleased to see that the development process of the System 6 Helmet has paid off. Years of effort have gone into producing this piece of BMW Rider Equipment and we are delighted with the end result which is both safe and comfortable.”

The System 6 helmet is priced at £325 in single colours and £355 for the patterned versions. It is now available in BMW Motorrad Dealerships.

ARAI HELMETS CELEBRATE 25 YEARS SUPPORTING THE TT

The 2009 Isle of Man TT races will mark 25 years of Arai Helmets officially supporting the TT.

From Dunlop to Hislop, McCallen to McGuinness, Fogarty to Jefferies; the legendary Japanese helmet is synonymous with the TT and have been atop some of its finest victories. But it’s not just the island’s greats that choose Arai, as each year up to 80% of competitors at the Isle of Man put their faith in the Japanese brand.

In 1983, Arai broke into the European market and the vision of its importer, Ferry Brouwer, was to do more than simply supplying helmets to racers but to offer a race service at every major motorcycle event. Though common practice now, back in the early eighties this level of support simply didn’t exist; Arai set the benchmark.

The first year of the Arai Race Support Service Team at the TT in 1984 was a far cry from the purpose-built unit and two support vans that will be manned by a staff of five at this year’s event; armed with a load of visors and a bucket, Ferry looked after riders Joey Dunlop and Brian Reid from the boot of his car with an Arai flag atop.

Working out of the back of a car wasn’t best practice, let alone great for building the image of a helmet brand, so very soon a dedicated support vehicle was used. Within five years of Arai offering this free service, the number of riders choosing Arai dramatically increased. Victories and compelling approval from prominent users and simply the performance of the product around the Mountain course couldn’t be ignored and by the late nineties up to 80% of the entire TT competitors were using Arai.

For Arai, the TT isn’t solely a brand awareness exercise. The races are also used to gather data and feedback on its products in order to aid development and create a better product for road riders as well as racers. Over the years and across its ranges, especially the new, range-topping RX-7 GP, Arai can hold the TT responsible in helping development to determine vent sizing and position, visor aperture and even the general fit of a helmet.

Over the last 25 years for Arai and its UK arm, Phoenix Distribution, its involvement with the TT has always covered more than just the race service support team and sponsoring riders. The manufacturer’s passion for the races has also seen it financially invest heavily in order to make sure the event continues as it is, most recently with a three-year, big-money sponsorship deal that began in 2007.

Many of the milestones – in fact it used to be all – feature Arai branding and its famous elliptical logo can be found on banners not just along the Mountain course but also at many points around the Island and; even the marshals all wear Arai clothing!

John Wakefield, managing director of Arai’s UK importer, Phoenix Distribution (NW) Ltd, explains: ‘We (Phoenix/Arai) are committed to the TT and will always try to be. We put in a massive investment every year and will continue to do so for 2009, despite the economic downturn. This event is the most demanding race course in the world and each lap the riders travel through so many different elements and conditions at speed that the TT is the ultimate test of our, or any, product. Long may it continue.”

The Arai Race Support Service will also attend the NW200 along with every round of the British Superbike championship. Road riders can also benefit from this free service at a series of public events throughout the year.

Arai 2009 TT hopefuls:

Keith Amor

Bruce Anstey
Michael Dunlop
William Dunlop
Gary Johnson
Steve Plater
Tim Reeves & Patrick Farrance

SUZUKI HAYABUSA GOES STEREOPHONIC

Stereophonics rock band musician, Richard Jones, has added a second Suzuki to his garage, as the bass guitarist for the chart-topping Welsh group, took delivery of a brand-new Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa last week.

Jones, who only last year opted for a Suzuki B-King, to use for regular visits to the recording studio, decided to add the legendary Hayabusa to his garage after moving out of London and into the country.

"The B-King is a fantastic tool and great fun around London, but now I need to cover much longer distances there was only one choice for me", said Jones. "The Hayabusa has such a reputation, and it's just one of those bikes that everyone should ride at some point. In fact, if I'm being completely honest, the longer distances are a bit of an excuse really. Just don't tell the wife!"

With a power output of nearly 200bhp, the Hayabusa is one of the fastest production machines on the planet, and has been the chosen weapon of choice for several official top-speed record attempts, since the original launch 11 years ago. Completely redeveloped in 2007, the Hayabusa has remained at the top of the hyper-sports tree and continues to maintain its legendary reputation.

Belstaff and the Busa': Richard Jones having a nice day...

The Stereophonics will be playing live later this year at the summer festivals.

Radical technological changes made to the new Streetguard 3 include:

C-Change membrane
Coldblack finish Keproshield and Dynatec technology
The use of the new c-change membrane cleverly adapts its pore sizes to suit fluctuating body temperatures ensuring that riders remain comfortable. On cold days the polymer compresses its structure for better insulation. Conversely, when the temperature rises to 18˚C or above, the polymer structure opens allowing excess body moisture to escape.

Other developments include the use of new award winning Coldblack technology on the outer shell, which reflects 80% of the sun’s UV rays, keeping the textile material cool for longer. The outer shell also comprises Keproshield and Dynatec technology providing 20% extra abrasion resistance over the Streetguard 2 providing added protection in case of a fall.

Additional new features of the suit include a high waistband on the trousers, with fleece inner lining for extra insulation, and a waterproof radiation-shielded pocket for a mobile phone.

As for safety, maximum impact-absorbing armour can be found on the elbows, knees, back, shoulders and hips of the suit. To ensure you’re seen from all angles, reflective fabrics on the front and back of the jacket as well as down the sides of the trouser legs will keep you in full view!

The design of this suit supersedes that of its predecessor. BMW have thought of everything from style to comfort to design – the suit has a simple zip down the front of the jacket and a waterproof removable storm collar in addition to being 100% waterproof. Furthermore, ventilation in the upper arms can be adjusted to allow air to flow through the jacket, depending on the level of airing you require!

BMW’s Streetguard 3 suit is priced at £925.00 including VAT. It is available in pure black as a trouser/jacket combination while the jacket also comes in black, grey and orange. BMW Rider Equipment come in a range of sizes from extra small to extra large.

Yamaha to launch limited edition MT01!!!

In September 2004 Yamaha created a whole new ‘Torque Sports’ category with the launch of the remarkable MT-01. Powered by a massive 1,670cc V-twin engine and featuring an aluminium sports chassis, the MT-01 is a truly unique motorcycle that underlines Yamaha’s position as the leading innovator within the powered two wheeler industry.

For 2009, Yamaha have introduced the MT-01 SP, a special limited-edition version featuring a range of significant chassis and stylistic changes which are designed to offer an enhanced riding experience.

Ohlins front and rear suspension

One of the most significant new features to be seen on the new MT-01 SP is the use of Ohlins front and rear suspension.

New 43mm Ohlins front forks have been designed to offer high levels of feedback from the road surface and have been developed in association with Ohlins specifically for the new MT-01 SP. They feature optimal spring and damping settings which, after intensive testing, have been set to match the unique characteristics of the

MT-01 SP’s high-torque engine and aluminium chassis.

The Ohlins rear shock absorber features a separate reservoir which ensures consistent damping performance. This new rear suspension offers high levels of comfort combined with first class handling, stability and road holding.

New levels of road-holding and excitement can be reached with the addition of these finely tuned updates, adding a greater level of sophistication and performance to an exclusive top of the range model.

Pirelli Diablo Rosso tyres

The new MT-01 SP is equipped with Pirelli Diablo Rosso tyres as original equipment, with a 120/70-17 front and a 190/50-17 rear. These well respected tyres offer good levels of grip combined with strong turning qualities and enhanced wet weather performance. These inherent characteristics are designed to underline the sporting potential of the SP’s aluminium chassis.

Fatter tapered handlebars and machined aluminium handlebar crown

The new MT-01 SP model is equipped with fatter 28.6mm diameter tapered handlebars which are used in place of the standard model’s 25.4mm diameter design. In addition, the SP is also fitted with a machined aluminium handlebar crown and the combination of the new components accentuates the bike’s muscular image and ensures a comfortable and sporty riding position.

Special colour scheme

The focal point is the red and white fuel tank which is complemented by a red front fender and red chrome MT logo on the tank. A new two-tone seat and gold wheels underline the exclusivity of this attractive new SP model.

Other special features include a protective nano-film coating on the bare-metal finish exhaust, and the use of additional chrome plating on selected engine and chassis components.

BMW offer free panniers on their R1200 range...

BMW Motorrad has announced a significant new offer on two of its most iconic and best-selling motorcycles. Customers purchasing a new R 1200 GS or R 1200 GS Adventure from 01 April until 30 September 2009 will receive a complimentary set of BMW Panniers, valued at £459 for the R 1200 GS and £603 for the Adventure. Both prices are recommended retail and inclusive of VAT.

BMW Panniers are the ultimate accessory for the 1200 GS and Adventure models. Not only are they designed to carry luggage and essential supplies when venturing out on a two-wheeled trip of a lifetime, but can also be used everyday for a laptop or brief case.

Customers purchasing a new R 1200 GS from any BMW Motorrad dealership will qualify for a free set of Vario Panniers, capable of carrying a total load of 10kg per pannier and providing a value added benefit of £459.77. These panniers have a unique adjusting mechanism that enables their overall volume to be adapted to suit the environment in which the bike is being ridden. They can be reduced from a combined capacity of 68 litres to 50 litres simply by flipping a bar in each case. This effectively reduces the width of the motorcycle by 120mm, which can prove extremely useful in congested zones when filtering through traffic.

And the new R 1200 GS Adventure is now available with a complimentary set of handmade Aluminium Panniers, providing customers with a value added benefit of £603.15. The rugged aluminium panniers, which are able to carry 20kg and offer a combined capacity of a substantial 82 litres, are often preferred for enduro adventure riding. They can easily be hooked onto the carriers and can be locked using a key coded to the bike.

Tony Jakeman, Marketing Manager for BMW Motorrad UK said: “With the 1200 GS range being the ultimate motorcycles for exploration and adventure, what better accessory to have than a complimentary set of panniers to go with the bikes? With the added value of this fantastic offer combined with our affordable finance packages from BMW Select the ever popular R 1200 GS and Adventure are even better value for money.”

BMW Motorrad has also assembled a number of accessory packages to complement its R 1200 GS models. The new ‘Luggage Packs’ represent even greater value for customers, offering a saving of £100 on retail prices. The Luggage Pack for both the R 1200 GS and GS Adventure includes L/H and R/H inner bags, Top box and mounting kit, locks, a Top box inner bag and tank bag.
